There’s a new General in Town and his name is Watkinz DA General. Born and raised in North Carolina in Raleigh’s Southeast Housing projects. Watkinz, turned to hip hop music early in his childhood. When rap music first exploded on the seen in the South East. He looked at musical influences like RUN DMC, (Jam Master J), GrandMaster Flash, Whodini, LL Cool J ,and Kurtis Blow for inspiration.
In his bedroom, was his studio, where he would have friends and others over for recording sessions using his: drum machine, sampler & 8 track recorder. He also DJ parties and soon was apart of group called (North Click) which lead him into a local college radio station (WKNC) as “MC Rappin Rob” on the mic and as a musical engineer. The group was approached for a record deal but, due to a bad contract they decided to turn it down.
As life went on for Watkinz, he remained in the studio mastering beats. Just as the music of hip hop has transform, he started to change by adding different sounds and elements into his beats. With access to the Web, Watkinz found a website called
Dopetracks.com. Making himself known, he started posting various forms of beats that some are able to sing or rap over. During his networking he became a favorite and gained several awards there. Eventually he was apart of a group called “Category 5ive” that became well recognized until issues arrived making him leave to pursue his own mission . (Dopetracks released there own independent Allstar Mixtape CD in which his beat was number 2 on it called BEAT DROP.) From there he continues to work with other Independent artists such as Tye Banks
Watkinz just released his first album ever, called: “The Men & Women of Honor” in mid-March of this year (2010). He plans to release another later in the fall.
